RTCM Troubleshooting Questions

Greetings, I need some help or suggestions on a few issues that I am having with a current RTCM setup. I have an RTCM that is setup for a friend in Idaho to connect back to my repeater system using a simplex radio and a RTCM. The hardware includes an RTCM connected to a Yaesu radio via the packet radio port. The audio levels and squelch settings were previously set using a service monitor at my house and all appeared to working fine from the various tests conducted with the radio connected to a dummy load. He then transported the RTCM and radio to his place in Idaho and plugged it into his home internet connection. Everything appears to be working fine with the exception of few issue that come up everyone in while. Sometimes when he is talking, his audio will drop out and his simplex node will go into transmit on his side for no apparent reason. Sometime when there is no activity on either side of the connection his transmitter will key up for a brief time then drop. (He has checked the his receiver input for signals and none are present.) Any Ideas on how to trouble shoot this? Thanks Marshall - ke6pcv

My experience has showed me that most problems like that were from some of the following: grounds that were suppose to be isolated (explicit) grounds chasing a frame ground. digital grounds that were not isolated. or grounds that should have been frame grounds that were not (kinda opposite of the above) *** While I have seen some refer to them as ground loops, that name for it does not always reflect what is really happening. Audio paths in much of the older gear we use in repeaters, the audio ground may not necessarily work correctly with a frame/power ground. The originating problem is not necessarily in the connections/circuits you see the error. Wide area traffic trade off.

I kinda get what your saying Doug. However Kevin had a mood point, pick your wording a little more to your point. Do not connect an individual user node to WIN and WAN at the same time for multiple reasons. First is WIN and WAN have a verbal agreement to not connect the 2 system together unless done so by a COP for emergency reasons. Secondly most residential nodes bandwidth will not handle the amount of traffic. And last but not least the key part is educate your users. Post it on your website your do and don'ts. WAN is and always will be an open system. We have helped a lot of people inside and outside the country setting up there nodes. All-star I'm my opinion is the best thing since sliced bread. When I first got into all-star it would allow IRLP along with echolink. That is not the case anymore. However I know there are nodes out there that can do those and more connections, although frowned upon. I always thought of the HAM community as friendly and helpful, but with strings like this happening not much help. I hope we can all get past this horrible use of adjectives and get back to the goal at hand. BETTERING THE AMATEUR WORLD. Everyone have a WAN-tastic day. This is no different than your view of the Raspberry PI. If a solution doesn't come from you - it's no good. Here's a clue. Go back to your simplex world and leave us alone. I could care less if you like the WAN system, but next time be smart enough to keep your opinions to yourself. registration server

Hi! there is a lot of repeater in the Quebec province that are now migrating to asterisk. (I know of about 10 to 15) Most of the sysop of those repeater dont want to connect to the allstar net cause of the language barrier. So they go on local net and they need to make all the programing for each new node on there system all the time.. What would it take, and is the code available to run there own registrtion server. It is not that we dont like the allstar network.. ( for one have both my repeater on it and love it.) but being french Canadian, we would like to have our own small registration server so when in need we could all link togheter more easily..

Bizarre Issue

Having worked with app_rpt for the past five years, I've run across most of the common issues that everyone else has. But every once in a while, I run across one that is so bizarre, I feel compelled to post it, so others might know about it. Such was the case yesterday. I have a site with a cabinet with three repeaters in it. The two meter repeater was installed last as an app_rpt repeater from the beginning, and has never had any issues. The other two are 70 centimeter GE EXEC II mobiles, full duplexed, connected to an RLC-4 controller, with the other two ports being wire line interfaces. Since the wire line has been having intermittent issues lately, I wanted to move the two GE radios to URIs. I built two conversion cables, with a female DB-9 on one end (to accept DB-9 male from radio to RLC controller), and a male DB-25 on the other (to connect to the URI). This leaves the flexibility of going back to the RLC-4, without rewiring everything. So, I get to the site and plug everything in and I'm ready to set levels. Repeater Randomly Keys Up

My repeater node continuously keys up for a second when my repeater node is linked to my hub node. When the repeater is in a stand alone condition (when its not linked to my hub node) it operates normally. Both nodes are connected locally (on the same network, behind the same firewall) but not on the same computer. I have set up some different settings on the radios that make up the repeater (its a maxtrac repeater). Any ideas where I might look? Has anyone else had this issue before? RTCM Timeout Settings

Is there configuration PTT timeout setting built into the RTCM? We have an RTCM that was setup for a friend in Idaho to connect back to our system, the other night it was timing out after two minutes and disconnecting when we were playing AR Newline. I looked in the RTCM manual and did not really see anything that jumped out at me. Maybe this is setting that can be changed in the configuration file of the server??? I am not sure where to look.
