Is anyone else using a Quad Radio PCI Card with a pair of Icom IC-F221s configured as a repeater? I've worked my way through the need for a COS pull-up resistor, but I can't seem to get the audio right. After setting proper deviation, I hear what sounds like a lot of computer-generated hash on the transmitter and a 'ghost' signal from a local commercial broadcast station in the background. I suspect that one of my problems is not using shielded cable from the Quad Card to the ICOMs. I could not find the appropriate shielded cable locally, so I had hoped to get by by sacrificing an old twisted-pair jumper. I crimped on a new RJ-45 with the following pin-outs: ICOM Receiver Discriminator Audio (330 mVRMS @ 100 k ohms --> Pin 1Quad Radio RJ-45 ICOM Tramsmitter (Radio Modulation IN) (330mV RMS) --> Pin 7 Quad Radio RJ-45 ICOM PTT --> Pin 5 Quad Radio RJ-45 ICOM COS (when radio is properly programmed and a pull-up resistor is used) --> Pin 2 Quad Radio RJ-45 ICOM Ground --> Pin 8 RJ-45 RX de-emphasis jumper is enabled and the best results seem to be obtained with TX pre-emphasis enabled (even though it is not recommended). I will be ordering shielded cable for RJ-45s Monday, but is there anything else I have missed? Thanks for any suggestions. John / WB5NFC

Alsa/Serial Port

Good Evening, I have been reading that there is support for Alsa and for serial port operation. Is there anything out there that tells how to get it to work? Static IP Address

Ok, I give. What file do I edit to set a Static IP. I have dug around a few linux boards, but I can't seem to find the correct file. I modified one file, but the system barfed on me, and didn't like the strings I put in. Can someone point me to the correct path, and possible show a sample file. This system also suffers from the "Sendmail Hang" because of the "resolve.conf". Once I get a static IP in, I can fix the resolve. Thanks -- KI6PSP (Ed)

Node not showing up on active list

Node 2211 is still not showing up in the active nodes list. http://stats.allstarlink.org/ It does, however, show up green in the System-wide nodes list, and Web transceiver. Inbound and outbound calls seem to work 100%. Today I tried moving the node to another server and back. No change. I also wanted to try changing the passwordon the portal for 2211, but couldn't find a way to do that.Any more ideas? boot problem

Hi All, having a problem on one of my nodes. If I reboot the node, it starts going through the services and hangs at sendmail for about 2- 3 min then continues to sh-client, hangs again and then smartd. After a while it finally finishes. Any ideas as to what might be the problem? Thanks, Jon VA3RQ

OK, looking back through my old notes I have a note that mentions that the audio drop occurs *sometimes* while apt_rpt is doing it's HTTP data reporting to allstarlink.. This is *still* happening but not all the time or consistently.. But sometimes and very noticeably the audio pops occur at the same time app_rpt sends it's stats. I did however recently find another test where I can cause the audio dropout to occur about 90% of the time which is far more consistent than waiting for app_rpt to do it's stat push. By running hdparm -t In my case it's: hdparm -t /dev/ida/c0d0p1 Just as the program exits it makes the audio popping.. *almost* every time. Oddly ad frustratingly it's *almost* every time.. Not really sure why 10% of the time it doesn't happen.. But be come kind of narrow timing window thing going on here. But *where*? Especially if you wait 5-10 seconds (or more) before running it again. This is the ONLY way in 2 years I've been able to induce the popping myself from a test. Otherwise it happens randomly as mentioned previously. A couple quick related notes is that the problem does *not* occur when running hdparm -T instead (buffer speed test) Nor when you manually flush the drive cache by running the sync command. Other activities that test the hard drive (large file copies etc.) do not induce the problem. That test is on a SCSI RAID5 array server.. Ok..simple DMK interface....

So...I'm going to show stupidity here. Nothing new...so bear with me, please. Anyway...looking to use the DMK dongle to key a radio whose PTT is a simple key to ground. Think normal HF or vhf rig like a 7900 or even a KenYaeCom HT, where the ptt basically closes a circuit. Hooking up a meter between ground (pin 20) and pin 1 (PTT) on the DMK, and issuing a command to key the dongle gives me close to a 0 ohm reading, but not quite; still at about 10 ohms. (and I know how to hook up a meter...fwiw, it's a simpson 260, not a digital, so, I can see the needle swing...). This obviously is not what I'm looking for. Yes, I know what the circuit is rated for (not much) and it's an open collector... So, the question is...is this pin basically a contact closure (which IS what I'm looking for), or some other logic level that I'll have to convert? If so...any pointers or ? I freely admit that digital logic (or lack thereof...) especially at this level (pretty basic, huh?) escapes me...but am willing to learn. TIA. Bryan WB0YLE Allstar 27294/27295 Echolink WB0YLE-R
