Constructing a cable for a Simplex node. The data connector on the radio has 2 pins. 1200bps and 9600bps outputs. The 1200 is de-emphasized/squelched. Which pin would be the one to use for audio out? 1200bps pin to pin 21(mic_ac) on the URI?

IC-706 Remote Base problems

Several months ago I tried (several times, many many hours) to get my IC-706MKIIG working as a remote base with no luck. Since then I have seen a couple others ask for help and no response from anyone yet. Again, has ANYONE ever gotten a IC-706MKIIG to work? Once again, I am trying to get it to work. I really need to get this to work as we want to use it for ARES, etc. I have tried every setting in rpt.conf, ioport, civ, etc, etc. I know the serial port is working on the computer I am trying to use. In fact, out of desperation, I wiped app_rpt off of it, reloaded windows XP, loaded my TXRX program and it happily controlled my IC-706. I started fresh with app_rpt, and if I uncomment ioport, then I get an error stating my serial port doesnt respond. I have tried both ports (I do see ttyS0, ttyS1 in dmesg), but nothing! If I comment it, I get no errors, but it never talks to the rig either. I know the cable is good because it works with the windoze program. My PTT and audio all work through the URI just fine, but it never controls the rig. Yes, I tried all the settings in the 706 as far as civaddr, etc. I tried all the civ speeds as well. Is there another setting in the 706 I need to change/set to get this to work? I did manage to get a doug hall RBI working on another system a while back so I know the "RBI remote base" code works with app_rpt. But what about a IC-706 code? Does it work only on the early 706 (non-MKIIG)? Does anyone have a working rpt.conf or steer me in the direction of your setup? Not much hair left, so please help!

app-rpt with external repeater controller possible?

Is it possible to use a repeaters external controller and just use app-rpt for it's linking capabilities? I'm guessing there would be no way of avoiding the repeater id's and messages being sent out to any linked repeater nodes.

Help requested for new link system

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I am trustee of Sandoval County ARES in New Mexico. (www.nmscares.org) I am in the process of redesigning our repeater system to permit linking of our 2 repeater sites. One site is in town with VHF & UHF repeaters & IC-706 remote base. The second site is on a mountaintop at ~9000' with one UHF repeater. Both are line-of-sight. I could use additional UHF XCVRs to link the sites, but I believe that Asterisk with app_rpt is a much better solution. I just completed my first evaluation of Asterisk using my personal repeater with connectivity provided by AllstarLink. I am pleased with the audio quality and linking capabilities. However, for this ARES implementation, I must have the ability to isolate the system from AllstarLink during exercises and activations. Thus, I have to determine if is possible to link nodes without going thru AllstarLink (IP to IP)? If not, is it possible to restrict access on the AllstarLink system? Secondly, would someone be willing to share module setups (xxx.conf) for a system that uses multiple repeaters and IC-706 remote base? Interesting. How do you go about retrieving the uploaded back-ups? worthwhile asterisk/app_rpt files to back-up?

Which files within app_rpt would be worthwhile to save a back-up of? Especially since I'm not using an eeprom URI. I'm sure rpt.conf would be one file, others? Being relatively new to ham radio, asterisk, and lacking in linux skills I'm inevitably gonna screw something up.

User gui not authenticating

localplay command not keying radio

I currently have a simplex node set-up. When I use the command localplay, it doesn't key the radio. app_rpt shows it's playing the audio message but it doesn't key up the radio (red light of the URI "on"). Although, when I use playback, It does work and keys the radio without issue. I'm guessing for some reason it's because I am set-up as a simplex node?? further info- audio file is ulaw, I did try it with a gsm file and had the same effect. audio file is located in /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/messages, I added the directory " messages " for future custom repeater messages 852=localplay,messages/someaudiofile is in the functions stanza 52=*852# is located in the macro stanza Thanks
