Hi folks, I received my parts this week and started building a node. The parts I've acquired: Intel D2700MUD Motherboard: http://www.intel.com/cd/products/services/emea/eng/motherboards/desktop/D27… ARK CS-Ci02 mini-itx case: http://www.arktechinc.net/server-case/cs-ci02.html Crucial 2GB SODIMM DDR3PC3 memory The D2700 Motherboard has an embedded USB storage header on the motherboard. Rather than using a compact flash drive, I acquired some SanDisk 512MB Embedded USB Flash storage devices. (Found on eBay) Here's some documentation on that http://media.digikey.com/pdf/Data%20Sheets/M-Systems%20Inc%20PDFs/uSSD_5000… I downloaded the Limey Linux image, and used Physdiskwrite on my windows pc to write the image to the USB Flash drive. Inserted the USB flash drive on the header, and gave it a rip. You'll find pictures of the case, mobo and flash drive here. http://www.neals.ca/w3rwn Ok, so it boots... loads kernel, makes a ram disk, and runs through a long list of boot up things. It mounts the root filesystem then seems to die. VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly on device 1:0 Freeing unused kernel memory: 292k freed EXT2-fs warning: checktime reached, running e2fsck reccomended There is no command prompt, so not sure what I should be doing next? Randy, why bother with Limey? When you have the hardware that you have. I have the D2800MT board and mini-itx case, power supply , SODIMM memory etc. I just grabbed a cheap 60G SSD and loaded up Debian on it. Then my Allstar server runs on the same box. It's wicked fast, but there are some issues, the sound drivers have to be built from scratch, you have to get past getting allstar to run on Debian and you have to modify the sources to run on a 2.6.35 kernel. All of this was documented on various web sites that I found. While Limey might be good if you just want to burn an image and go, I suspect that running an allstar server on a 512M USB drive is a bit restrictive. I have no fans, no spinning drivers, the MB is a 12V motherboard and I run 3 URI's and 4 RTCM's all off the same box with no issues whatsoever. Just figured I'd offer an alternative view. Connection troubles and NAT FYI

While Asterisk works behind NAT just swell, it seems several of the problems I have run into can be traced back to a terrible NAT implementation on our router. We have some rangebooster DLink that NATs even DMZ traffic, and generally breaks inbound anything. portal updates, phone portal, etc, works rarely if at all. Something to keep in mind is to try and remove the router if you have one, and see if it is problematic. I would not leave the system like this, it will be probed via SIP and SSH, but you can quickly eliminate that element from your frustration.

Of course, I refuse to let my URI become an AU$180 paperweight. Practicality: there is no aptitude package for the kernel source. Its as simple as that. From 3.1.9 to 3.2.27+, not a cracker. They cite this is a fast moving target, and while I sympathise with them, this thing *is* moving, it leaves poor blokes like you and I out in the cold. And I bet we're not the only ones asking about the kernel source...! I've tried using "apt-cache search kernel-devel" and nothing. I'm considering adding mainline Debian repos to aptitude, and downloading the kernel source for Wheezy from there. I may have to then disable the mainline repos, I'd actually run into issues with the compilation of Asterisk (before realising app_rpt wasn't able to be selected) and the particular architecture - GSM codec won't compile for an ARMv6 target, must be generic ARM. That should, in theory, work. Since the package is source, and not a platform specific application, theres no case of it downloading an x86 package, say, and trying to execute it. As for the hooks? Unsure, there would be a particular directory structure that it would create. But then theres a proviso: since its a "canned" package, will it actually work? I've actually installed tonezone2-dev from aptitude, and then was told, don't, it won't work. I must install the source version of tonezone included with Zaptel included with the SVN version of Allstar. I don't doubt why. They built it. Plus is the tonezone2 too new? Etc etc. I didn't really ask why, I think understand enough.To get myself into trouble, evidently. I cant sleep at the moment, and I'm not tired. Might grab a coffee, drag out the Macbook out to the dining room where my DJ rack with the equipment in it sits in the corner, and try this adding repo thing. I encourage you to try the same - if only so we can compare notes. I take it you're in Canada with a "VA" callsign? I was VK2FPGA before I let it lapse due to personal issues. I'm doing this for a community group at the moment who, at a particular part of the year, get a two week temporary licence, and use Simoco SRM9000s on UHF. If I can get this working, I might be able to give my mate this as part of his wedding present, although I'm sure his bride will question the applicability to her ^.^ Don't worry, they're getting a lovely photo frame that I'm going to encourage them to put a photo of their special day into. In any case, Ramesh, I hope this is a little food for thought for ya, I'm trying to think about ways around the problem. I mean, there has to be some way around it, its Linux for crying out loud! Cant connect or Stay Connected UPdate

Well I think I figured out why my node 28238 can connect. It registers just fine, but it’s not on the status page. BUT. I added this line into my rpt.conf file: 2560 = radio@208.70.77.197:4569/2560,NONE And now it will reliability connect to the WIN system. I also installed an ISP supplied router in place of my D-Link router. That also seems to help. So why doesn't it show up on the status page? And when I look at connected nodes on 2560, my node is listed but no information is displayed? Thanks 73 Jim W7RY

Hi Guys; I have just updated to app_rpt v0.307 from 0.306. My main motivator was to get rid of the darn squelch crash on my 220 repeater! So, I have added the following 2 COP commands to rpt.conf 882=cop,58 ; talk through tone 883=cop,59 ; normal ctcss So the cop,58 command works great for LOCAL RF users - no more squelch crashes - YEH :) However, we are not hearing remote activity (from connected links) or any 'commanded' telemetry (link status, etc.) - it's all there, but no PL is being transmitted. What am I missing??? Here is my usbradio.conf file contents: hdwtype=0 ; Leave this set to 0 for USB sound fobs modified using ; the instructions from usbfob.pdf. CT weirdness

Hi I am having a lot of strange things happen with my CTs on my node. I have 3 nodes defined on this computer. Each has an entry in rpt.conf but regardless of what I put in the telemetry stanza I cannot change the CTs! I have renamed the telemetry sections in the node definition section of the rpt.conf file with suitable names and used the same name in the title of the telemetry section i.e. "telemetry=telemetryNODE1". Each node has its own name for the telemetry section. I have no idea where the CTs are being defined at this point as any changes that I make, do not make any difference to the tones heard on the node. There are some really cool CTs I am hearing right now on these nodes but I have no idea where they are being defined from! Has anyone had this before or could help me determine where I am going wrong please? Thanks, Matt G4RKY
