Dial on RPi - recompile after updates

Hi all, I downloaded and installed the DIAL image for the RPi2 and it went in a treat. Great work guys! What I did next broke it, but it is something that we all have to do and I've done it many times with my Acid installs: I did an update to the system. Just as with Acid, the updates broke Asterisk and it craps out after a few tries: [Jan 9 14:34:48] WARNING[300] chan_dahdi.c: Unable to open '/dev/dahdi/pseudo': No such file or directory [Jan 9 14:34:48] ERROR[300] chan_dahdi.c: Unable to dup channel: No such file or directory [Jan 9 14:34:48] WARNING[301] chan_simpleusb.c: File simpleusb_tune_usb.conf not found, device usb using default parameters. [Jan 9 14:34:50] ERROR[269] app_rpt.c: Continual RPT thread restarts, killing Asterisk I am guessing that Asterisk etc needs to be re-compiled. How do I go about this? I tried running the rpi2 install script at https://github.com/N4IRS/AllStar and answered "n" to repeated queries about patches. Compilation appeared to succeed, but Asterisk still dies on me. Echolink connection announcement Volume

We have worked out all the bugs in our RPi2 w/DIAL node, and the repeater sounds fantastic. We had quite a number of Echolink connections to our local net this evening, and their audio was very good as well. We do have one question. Is there a way to reduce the connection announcement volume during repeater use? ("Node xxxxx connected to node yyyyy.) I've been going though the docs.allstarlink.org/drupal site and not found it addressed. Thanks, Bob kk6ecm

Anyone successfully using RTCM with DIAL?

After a great deal of testing, I've narrowed my RTCM problem down to DIAL. Is anyone using an RTCM (either as a voter, or preferably, as a non-voting mix client) on a DIAL box? Mine is working perfectly on ACID, but move the config over to DIAL, modify the modules.conf (since they are quite different) and I lose the ability to repeat. All audio generated from any other source (telemetry, link audio, etc coming from server) successfully transmits over the RTCM, but any audio coming FROM the RTCM receiver does not get repeated back the RTCM transmitter. I've been digging deep into this for a few weeks but am now running out of leads. I'd love to talk to anyone that is successfully using an RTCM on DIAL, that has a transmitter connected to it as well. Thanks all. 73 James KI0KN

VPN or other option?

Is it possible to set a portable node up to where you do not have to access the router and do port forwarding where you connect it to be able to gain operability? Could a VPN be set to do tunneling to say, your home QTH and bypass this step? I have not done any VPN work in linux. Thanks for any help!!! Keri KB0YNA Mesa County, Colorado RACES

Vpn tunnels are great to extend your lan. Echolink Connection Issue

Just setup a new node (42928) using DIAL on a RPi which is registering on both the Allstar and Echolink (518309) sites, showing up as valid on all lists. The repeater works fine with radio calls, and incoming Allstarlink node connections, but not from Echolink. CLI> indicates successful reception from the Echolink servers... no errors or warnings of any type in CLI>. The node just does not see any incoming contacts from Echolink. Any ideas? By the way, simpleusb has way too much audio delay... hear whole words after unkeying. Whereas it's not as noticable using usbradio. Thanks, Bob kk6ecm

2 nodes using DIAL on a RPI2

Hi All: Can you have 2 nodes on a RPI2, one with app_rpt (full DSP capabilities, full duplex) and the second with chan_simple_usb - simplex? The last time I tried this with ACID, it didn't let me use both channel drivers simultaneously, i had to choose one or the other. Thanks, Ramesh. Sent from my iPhone

DIAL usbradio conversion to simpleusb

What I believe I've learned... I've not checked this on ACID, but I just completed converting from usbradio to simpleusb using DIAL on an RPi, and found I had to increase the levels by about 2 dB (60% increase) to get the same response from the radio. This was for both the rx and tx values. usbradio worked as before on the replaced ACID box. I found the RPi handled the usbradio processing load quite well, and received compliments on the audio quality. Thanks, r/Bob kk6ecm
