Allstar node Scheduler Help
by Steve Thompson 10 Nov '18

10 Nov '18

I’ve recently created a new Allstar node, and I’m working my way through some issues. One issue is that every hour, on the hour, the node transmits a dead carrier for 3 minutes, then there’s a CW message telling me it’s a timeout. Then the node unkeys. Very early on in the process of bringing my new node alive, the node was transmitting the time (in voice) at the top of the hour. So I have to believe this was the same process which is now working incorrectly. And perhaps I did something at some point to cause it to error out. I’ve searched through all the conf files in /etc/asterisk and the only reference to any sort of schedule is in rpt.conf. In the [schedule...] section, the only two lines (which reference a macro to be run on the hour) are both commented out with semi-colons. I did not comment them out. I would think since they are commented out, they’d not be running .. unless there’s something somewhere else triggering this behavior. Where else can I see what is going on with a schedule? Any thoughts on how to (1) in the short term, disable this scheduled event, and (2) in the long term, fix it so that it works properly? I have an extensive IT background but not much familiarity with Linux OS, so go easy on me. Steve N7TX

Connection issues with new ASL hub
by Russell Thomas 09 Nov '18

09 Nov '18

I'm working on a Raspberry Pi hub and it appeared to install everything fine and I went through the ASL quick setup wizard. The node is reporting it's online and such but when I try connecting to it from another node it tells me the connection failed or timed out. It seems like I had a similar issue with our club node and it's possibly a dahdi problem but I don't know how to fix it? Any suggestions? 73, Russell Thomas, KV4S

New node on the air.
by walter 08 Nov '18

Today node 49289 was finished and put on the air. The Pi3b+ and the software started up great. I do not know very much about linux, but I did not need to. The software stepped me through the setup just fine. I did have some help from the guys up in Phoenix area as to the router setup. I built my URI out of a mini sound fob. It had the cm119 chip not the cm108, but they convert the same way. I plugged it into my Maxtrac and all I had to do was set audio levels. I am very happy the way the project came together. Many thanks to the software writers. Great Job.... Walt 49289 WB4LDS

Hello All! I am having trouble configuring the node. The Pi is running, has web connection and in generally functions. However, I think the problem lies somewhere in my RX audio. I am unable to configure this, as I dont seem to get a signal when trying to adjust it. Any help would be highly appreciated! Marco

Question about recovering rpt.conf
by John Griffith 04 Nov '18

04 Nov '18

I accidentally deleted my rpt.conf file (so easy to do with the slip of the mouse in WINSCP), but I have not refreshed my node or reloaded anything, therefore my node is still up and running normally. My question is, can I recover my rpt.conf file from the still working cache as my node is still online? John

If you have questions on the use of Asterisk and app_rpt, don't hesitate to ask. There is a lot of technical experience available through this list and I have never seen anyone berated for asking questions and trying to learn. Just a small point, as with other forms of technical support a well written and information rich message will do more to help both you and those helping you than poorly laid out and written messages lacking detail. As for today's ongoing discussion you referenced, there is much more background than may be visible at face value. Most of the tension stems from a small group of developers who basically forked the project a while back and continue to maintain a closed source repository of their code. General consensus is that the GNU GPL v2 license, under which Asterisk is distributed, requires their code to be open-sourced, yet they have publicly refused to do so. A quick search of the internet will bring up many more discussions on that topic as well as claims of other questionable activities by those developers. As for some of the other replies to the thread, unfortunately this list is a reflection of the greater world of amateur radio, and similarly has the same broad spectrum of personalities. Brett KQ9N
