Walt/Steve, Unless you're in it for the drama, I'd run away as fast as possible and never look back. I've been here since April or so and it's constant sniping followed by full frontal attacks. Then it calms down for a minute before it starts all over again. I don’t understand the internal struggles here, since this is all new to me. So far, I’ve seen a lot of unpleasantness. This looks like an environment which I’m probably best to steer clear of, until things settle out. Whatever floats your boat, Bryan. I'm not a software developer, but I'm also not a jerk. You are, in my opinion, more of the latter than you are the former. If you don't like me, kick my nodes off your servers. I don't care anymore. ASL is not worth putting up with your prima-donna attitude. You guys are a running joke in much of the rest of the ham radio community; too bad it's not funny to those of us stuck in the middle. If you're worried about the demise of ham radio, try looking in the mirror...and maybe go to confession. I've never done anything to you except disagree with you and you've treated me like crap here and elsewhere. At this point, whether you are right or wrong is immaterial. You can't go around abusing people just because they disagree with you and expect people to put up with it. I've tried to play nice in your presence but it has done no good. I've tried to distance myself from you, but you make it a point to regularly come up on the net to stir the pot. It has gotten old; all the end users want is a product the works and to not have to listen to this continuous battle. I'll save you the trouble of looking in my nodes numbers; they are 48166, 48656, and 48969. If you're feeling froggy, go ahead and block them. As for my moral compass, it served me well for the past 37 years of service to this country and through more wars than I can count. Maybe you too should try doing something worth while to mankind and quit stroking your... ego all the time. As an end user, I have no more responsibility to protect 'your' product than I would to protect Microsoft. dtmf to script not working for me. FIXED
by edbathgate＠zoominternet.net 25 Oct '18

Bryan, Nate, Mark, Thanks for the help! Yep, the lack of a path preceding the timestamp file was my problem! I found an /asd.dat file in the root directory that had a bunch of entries in it! The DTMF to script line was working days ago, but the script was putting the data where I was not looking. I also found one in /root/asd.dat > 714 = cmd,/etc/asterisk/ab.sh ; has been putting date-time in /asd.dat, not /etc/asterisk/ast.dat I also found that when I ran it from CLI> !/etc/asterisk/ab.sh ; it was putting the stamps in /root/asd.dat. CLI> !pwd returns /root. But the script worked when I was linux prompt and #cd /etc/asterisk then #./ab.sh ;because I was in that working directory... now it all makes sense! THE SKY OPENED UP, THE SUN SHOWN FROM ABOVE, ANGELS SANG! I SEE THE LIGHT! The corrected version of the test script: >/etc/asterisk$ cat script: ab.sh > #!/bin/bash > echo 1234 > date > date >> /etc/asterisk/asd.dat THANKS GUYS!!! Ed N3SDO

dtmf to script not working for me.
by edbathgate＠zoominternet.net 25 Oct '18

25 Oct '18

Issuses with running bash scripts from within allstar by DTMF. Host is X86 type, I'm logged in as root, file permissions set to 777 for both ab.sh and asd.dat. it works from linux cli, partially works from asterisk cli, !/path/script, and does not work from within rpt.conf. 713=cmd,/path/script. Running asterisk version 0.327 installed about a month ago from iso file. So story begins... This simple script prints 1234, prints the time/date and appends the time and date onto file asd.dat. /etc/asterisk$ cat script: ab.sh #!/bin/bash echo 1234 date date >> asd.dat Script runs as it should from the command line of a linux console window /etc/asterisk$ ./ab.sh 1234 Mon Oct 22 22:05:22 EDT 2018 * Note the time ^^^ Now to check the file and find 05:22: cat asd.dat Mon Oct 22 22:05:05 EDT 2018 Mon Oct 22 22:05:22 EDT 2018 <yay it worked But from within Asterisk CLI it only works 1/2 way: *CLI> !/etc/asterisk/ab.sh 1234 Mon Oct 22 22:11:44 EDT 2018 * Note the time ^^^ 6 minutes later, It printed within the asterisk CLI, but did not append to the file. cat asd.dat Mon Oct 22 22:05:05 EDT 2018 Mon Oct 22 22:05:22 EDT 2018 < still the old time in the file. not 11:44, so run from asterisk CLI does not let script update the file?? And even worse when I try to do this via the rpt.conf file: <snip> of rpt.conf 713 = !/etc/asterisk/ab.sh 714 = cmd,/etc/asterisk/ab.sh 715 = cmd,/etc/asterisk/nothere.sh command 713 does nothing, wrong syntax for rpt.conf but tried as a test anyway., 714 tries to do something, but does not work., 715 should fail or report error as there is no file by that name but behaves same as 714. n3sdorpt2*CLI> rpt fun 29019 *713 n3sdorpt2*CLI> rpt fun 29019 *714 [Oct 22 23:32:28] NOTICE[20572]: app_rpt.c:4084 function_cmd: cmd param = /etc/asterisk/ab.sh, digitbuf = n3sdorpt2*CLI> rpt fun 29019 *715 [Oct 22 23:33:55] NOTICE[20572]: app_rpt.c:4084 function_cmd: cmd param = /etc/asterisk/nothere.sh, digitbuf = I am doing something wrong or have things set wrong in the OS, or is this function been disabled? Please advise. N3SDO

To me, we all talk about things that are not exactly relevant to the 'GROUP' I always feel that you have 3 messages to clean your pipes. We are well past that point. If you have grievances greater than you can conduct in that space, take it to the courts, social media or your own website. We have herd all of the points at least once. What is left to achieve. Gentleman, please be gentleman and do not make 'the group' suffer. Get your messages on point of help in progression of app_rpt ! Or directly message each other. It's our list and we thank you for remembering to keep it that way. Act respectful and be respected. ...mike/kb8jnm

Dtmf to script not working for me, addtl info
by edbathgate＠zoominternet.net 24 Oct '18

I should clarify on the software version I am running on X86. AllStarLink Asterisk Version 1.01 2/13/2018 GIT Version 004b9dd Copyright (C) 1999 - 2018 Digium, Inc. Jim Dixon, AllStarLink Inc. and others. I get version "0.327" by rpt fun 29019 *723, = status,3 ; give software version (global) I tried same time stamp script on my 2nd node,29966, but it has no USB-audio module, it goes through the motions via command line. 29966 WILL write the time stamp to the file tr.dat from the Asterisk CLI> using !/path/script. But I get the same behavior from the DTMF command called through rpt fun defined in rpt.conf. Both nodes installed on similar hardware from the same USB install thumb drive. Ideas? Suggestions?

I personally believe all the attacks are counterproductive. Let’s all try to work together so we can keep Jim Dixon’s dream of Allstar alive. We all need to step back, take a deep breathe, and try to work as a team. We don’t all have to get a long and differences of opinion are fine. As always, I am willing to mediate any dispute.

Hi all- When I do a: sudo apt-get upgrade I see it looks like the hold I did with install is still in effect. Do I leave it this way? Also wondering how we might find when the ASL code has been updated. I like to be a guinea pig. The following packages have been kept back: libjavascriptcoregtk-4.0-18 libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 raspberrypi-kernel raspberrypi-kernel-headers 73 Clifford- KK6QMS
