DTMF Decode Logic Output
by Monty 26 Nov '18

26 Nov '18

All, Anyone try to get a logic signal for when DTMF is detected from app_rpt? Without the obvious of using an external decoder 😉. I’m looking at a duplex=3 setup, but don’t want the DTMF retransmitted over the air. Maybe in the form of a events management system variable or script? Thanks, Monty -- Monty

default keyboard
by Tom 25 Nov '18

25 Nov '18

I hadn't noticed the problem with several keys like | \ and ~ not correctly mapping from a USB connected keyboard because I usually interface with SSH. Today, I had a USB keyboard plugged into a Pi and was trying to pipe through grep and I kept getting a ~ instead of |. It turns out that the default keyboard on your Pi is set for Great Britain instead of US. Here's the fix: vi or nano into /etc/default/keyboard change from XKBLAYOUT="gb" to XKBLAYOUT="us" . Brandmeister Password reset
by Mike 25 Nov '18

25 Nov '18

I have been unable to log-in a brandmeister for a few months. But at the same time, I am unable to reset the password via email. Goes through the steps but I get no email for the password reset. I am not using spam catcher on my email servers. Any ideas for a next step ? ...mike/kb8jnm

Re: [App_rpt-users] ASL 1.01 Source Code
by Tom 25 Nov '18

I first want to say a big Thank You to Ken Koster (N7IPB) for his suggestions. They were the key to getting it to compile. After the installing various libs like libncurses-dev, libusb-dev,libssl-dev and libcrypto++-dev to eliminate dependency errors; needed to install the g++-4.9 compiler (actually version 4.9.3). The standard compiler is gcc (version 6.3.0). Both are installed; but I need to make it use g++-4.9 by specifying it with ./configure CXX=g++-4.9 CC=gcc-4.9. Initially that wasn't working until I did a make clean (to remove previous compile object file errors). Then I re-ran ./configure CXX=g++-4.9 CC=gcc-4.9, followed by make. That worked! Then make install. 'Hope this helps others fighting the same problem. Tom / K5TRA

Re: [App_rpt-users] AllStar as Repeater Controller Connect to Duplex Hub
by Jim Aspinwall No1PC 24 Nov '18

24 Nov '18

Thanks for all of the responses. A bit more tinkering and the 'magic' turns out to be Duplex = 2, linktolink = yes in rpt.conf, and not sure it matters but duplex=1 in simpleusb.conf. Maybe that was obvious in some part of some documentation, but, often head-to-wall interface is part of the solution. Now to get the RA-35 and/or RA-40 and/or the stellar DFM PiHat interface setup for the repeater chassis of interest and make more. 3. AllStar as Repeater Controller Connect to Duplex Hub
by Jim Aspinwall No1PC 23 Nov '18

I thought I was going to be ingenious and replace a few RLC multi-port controllers that each have one of the link ports tied to an AllStar node that runs in non-duplex, and the node connects to another AllStar hub (running in duplex) that is used as the 'link' to feed other repeaters in similar configuration. Simply connect the repeater radio to the AllStar interface, re-configure the node to duplex=2 - tah-dah - repeater!! Then, connect the repeater node to the hub so it can be linked to the other sites. Connects as before, not unexpected. Great. What I did not account for is that the hub is running in duplex, so whatever the repeater sends to it comes back, delayed of course. Sounds like an undesired configuration... However that doesn't seem to account for the fact in the prior configuration the duplex hub traffic never came back into the half-duplex node and echo'd. Is this a hang-time thing? Am I missing something? Expected behavior - don't try this at home?

ASL 1.01 Source Code
by Stacy 23 Nov '18

23 Nov '18

All, Last night I merged the develop branch into master on the AllStarLink Github repo and updated the README to README.md to be a little more descriptive. Today I created a release tag of ASL-1.01 to make downloading the ASL 1.01 source easier without using git. You can find the ASL-1.01 release at: https://github.com/AllStarLink/Asterisk/releases 73 Stacy KG7QIN

status of urix gpio outputs
by ve6ars R Dahl 23 Nov '18

I am channel steering 31 channels of a modified gm300 via the following snippets of simpleusb.conf and rpt.conf It all works well but I would like to be able to query the server as I have to go by my own memory of what channel I left it on. Ideally, then I could put the status on a webpage to display the channel number. In the meantime we have a camera looking at the radio for verification. Anybody know how to do this? Non-profit status
by Todd Lesser 23 Nov '18

23 Nov '18

Many people have been asking about our non-profit status. They would like to make contributions by the end of the year since their employers have matching funds. I wanted to let you all know that Allstarlink, Inc. is a Florida non-profit corporation. Earlier this week we filed for 5013c status with the IRS. We expect to receive our approval within 30 days. Once we have the approval letter from the IRS, I will let everyone know.

Audio Delay on Xmit with new repeater build
by jerutley＠gmail.com 22 Nov '18

22 Nov '18

Hello list! I've been working on building our new repeater using AllStar on a Pi-3 as the controller, URI-X as the audio interface, and a pair of CDM-1250's as XMit and receive radios. At first, when I set everything up, all was working wonderfully. But now, after being up a couple of days, I'm hearing a delay in the transmit - I key up, announce my callsign, unkey, and I actually hear the last bit of my transmit audio as an "echo". Doing some research thru the mailing list, it seems to indicate this *might* be the system being a little underpowered - is this a regular occurrence with a Pi in duplex mode? Would upgrading to something more powerful help? Been looking at something like the Qotom or Protectl small form factor PCs - but I'm a little concerned about they would hold up in the heat. Our building at the tower site does not have any cooling in it, and it can get rather warm during the summertime. Another question - can the AllStar version of Asterisk directly play MP3-formatted audio? I'm considering some functions using Amazon's Polly Text-to-Speech service, which provides MP3 files, so I'm wondering if Asterisk could play them directly, or if I'd have to use sox to convert them to another format first. Thanks! Jeremy, NQ0M
