headers hold - how long?

Hi all- When I do a: sudo apt-get upgrade I see it looks like the hold I did with install is still in effect. Do I leave it this way? Also wondering how we might find when the ASL code has been updated. I like to be a guinea pig. Allison speech messages / telemetry volume

I was doing a scouting event, and experienced a number of the tx-ing stations with low audio, so I was cranking my volume and straining to hear the other stations, when a blasting disconnect message comes through. I found settings of how to block the connect/disconnect messages. There used to be 'ducking' settings in the Xipar distribution of allstar. Telemnomdb=-10, Telemduckdb =. -15. Do these still exist? I just found linkmongain variable. Mine was still at zero. I may jack that up to compensate for low hub audio. Anybody have suggestions to adjust the rx audio/hub audio/telemetry radios without severely blasting other users when I am connected into a hub? Ed N3SDO

Assistance with Radio Operation

I have my server node running, 49155. I am able to use it to connect to another node with iaxrpt and speak with an echo link user. I have hooked up my sound card with a radio that will run fldigi on another raspberry pi with Jessie installed. Therefore I am confident that my hardware and wiring are ok. The card is a usb card. lsusb shows The first device listed is my sound card. When I connect to my node I have been using the keypad when the call ok appears. I enter *34911. When I speak the mic meter is indicating audio but my radio does not key. I am attaching copies of rpt.conf manager.conf modules.conf Please let me know if you need anything else from asterisk directory. Thank you. Martin Boroff, WD9GYM

Allstarlink package for armv6 architecture

HI list: Before Steve (N4IRS) stepped back from the project, he was taking a look at creating a package that would build on a Raspberry Pi B or B+ (armv6). I do currently run on an RPi B+ with an old apt_rpt build on top of Arch Linux. (See https://github.com/K2DLS/Allstar-using-dahdi-Arch-4x) But I cannot update the OS because when I do, the package fails to run and rebuild for a number of reasons. Anyway, are the current team members at all interested in creating a package that we could install on a current Raspbian Stretch image on the older RPi models? There are a number of us out here who would be interested, if for no other reason than it ought to work and we have a bunch of older RPis sitting around not doing too much! Hi folks I've been tinkering under the hood with my new 20180417 version allstar repeater, downloaded and installed last week, and figured out why asl-menu option 3 Run Radio-tune-menu for USBradio configuration is not working on my setup. In my rpt.conf file my command has "rxchannel = Radio/usb_29966". Most the rxchannel = Something is Capitalized in the first letter and the asl-menu is looking for "radio", not "Radio" < the capital R is throwing it off. First of all, My hat is off to N8THN for crafting such a nifty menu shell! Just elegant!! My proposed fix is in /usr/local/sbin/asl-menu nano the file and find line grep '^rxchannel[ \t]*=[ \t]*radio' $CONFIGS/rpt.conf > /dev/null flag grep to case insensitive by adding the -i option. grep -i '^rxchannel[ \t]*=[ \t]*radio' $CONFIGS/rpt.conf > /dev/null And the menu will work for Radio or radio. And using the hamtronics rx board with direct discriminator feed to the USB FOB, fixed the "not enough high frequency noise" during radio tune rxnoise command, and also corrected my DTMF 3 not decoding problem that I was seeing last week using de-emphasized HT speaker audio. 73 Ed N3SDO

ASL on Pi Zero?

Hi, I wonder if anyone has tried / been successful in getting ASL running on an original Pi or a Pi Zero? The hamvoip.org image is only Pi 2+. I tried using the http://dvswitch.org/ASL_Repository packages to install it on Raspbian on a Zero and it installed, but Asterisk just segmentation fault'd. I was going to try compiling from source, but thought i'd see if anyone had trodden this path first. A Pi 2 will run a dual node without too much load so I don't see why a Pi Zero shouldn't be able to run at least once stream, but it's much smaller and cheaper. Thanks, Ian

Switching Hardware on a Pi

Is there something special that needs to be done when switching audio FOB's on a Pi? I had a RIM-7330 with an intermittent USB jack. Received a replacement, swapped it in, everything works except TX audio (from the radio into the RIM, more likely it's not reacting to the PTT logic). When I put the old one back in it worked fine (other than having to hold the USB jack just right). Put the new one back on still no luck. Scott at RB (Who probably thinks I am crazy at this point) was kind enough to send me another RIM-7330 as well as a RIM-Lite. Put the next RIM-7330 in, same issue! Tonight I made up the cable to try the RIM-Lite, Same issue again! I've tried 5 different USB cables, rebooted many times, every basic thing I can think of. It's like it does not want to recognize the PTT output as COS on the RIM. The PTT logic is working on the controller, even tried another port. Strange thing is it will occasionally work, no rhyme or reason, and can quit working mid-sentence. Is there somewhere in the config I need to clear the old RIM out of the file? Is it done by a device ID somewhere? ThanksTomW9SRV

Trying to keep the thread tied together... I am up and things are functioning better now. The Root login was key to getting things to work. Thanks Brian. The Repeater login, does not set the paths correctly. <Additional info, for new or refreshing users, this might be useful info or tips to add to the FAQ, or not...> I originally ran an ACID distro years ago, and decided to do a new version on some different hardware. I used a windows 7 pc to download the .iso file, then used 'rufus3.3' to make a bootable linux usb drive with the Asterisk .iso file on it. It loaded ok, and I got in as Repeater, but could not do any of the asterisk commands, nor asl-menu. (root login fixed that). I had difficulty getting the radio tune commands to work, it kept failing returning that "Device usb_29019" currently not active". If I did 'radio active' it showed my usb device as active. <tip> ctl+alt+[f2] opens another login and console session, switch back to orig console by ctl+alt+[f1] Command lsusb showed cm108 audio device was present to the OS. I found the problem in the top of rpt.conf file, I had under [29019] node number stanza, both rxchannel = dahdi/pseudo and rxchannel = Radio/usb_29019 both uncommented, and it was confusing the program or only activating the first choice. After that I was able to manually "radio tune txvoice" from the Asterisk CLI. I could not get the gui to do the radio tuning functions. It was enabled in modules, and rpt.conf, and worked from CLI. Menu BUG, or something funky on my install? Everything seemed to work nicely when connected through the router by copper, but when I went to a wireless > copper "wi-fi" extender, the DHCP from the extender kept giving a IPV6 address only, without a IPv4 address. I used ifconfig to show my ip address, as my wireless device did not give IP or port info. Adding the following lines to the /etc/sysctl.conf file I was able to prevent IPV6 and get a IPv4 address, and now I was showing on the node list on Allstar. net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1 net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6 = 1 net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6 = 1 net.ipv6.conf.eth0.disable_ipv6 = 1 Most everything is working, except Asterisk does not decode DTMF 3 from either of my radios. I suspect this to be an artifact of using demphasized audio from an HT I used to feed the USB audio device. I plan to try a hamtronics rx board discriminator audio and see if that fixes the DTMF issue. Observed using Asterisk CLI commands: radio set debug (on) and rpt debug level 7 while I was trying to connect to hub 2135. I activated a 2nd node today, #29966, but I only have 1 CM108 usb device at the moment... and could not get Asterisk to play with a logitech USB headset. 73 Ed N3SDO
