AllStar Node / repeater radios

Being a DSP based radio, the BF888 is a cheap low power analog only RF package. Given the lack of discriminator and modulator access it is limited. For a receiver the Maxtrac / Radius / GM300 work well. For a transmitter not so much. Heat output and with the Maxtrac, problems with power and deviation control out of band can cause problems without custom firmware or hardware hacks. My absolute favorite RF gear for Analog / Digital repeaters is Tait. The T800 series is a purpose built programmable Exciter / Receiver package. With access to all the signals anyone would want. I started using them for 927 MHz repeaters and have had great performance on UHF and VHF. Mix and match at will. Pair a VHF receiver with a UHF or 900 MHz transmitter for a nice RF linked receiver site. For link radios simplex nodes and "Hot Spots" I've come to favor the Tait T2000 mobiles. They are easy to program, well documented, lots of IO and run cool in transmit. The above is not to say there are not a LOT of great repeater / node packages out there. The GE MASTR II comes to mind. I have to mention the Micor to keep the flack down. ;) I've built repeaters using everything from a Motorola 30D to current equipment. Is it possible to use a URIx for freestar yet or do you still need a hardware board for the digital stuff? I know they were working on something for software. I am new to AllStar and this mailing list. I have a problem getting IAXRPT to function on a ACID distribution. Echolink is also enabled. I see: NOTICE[2973]: chan_iax2.c:9459 socket_process: Host 192.168.1.156 failed to authenticate as kf5vh I have attempted several configuration syntaxs from various online documents. Is there a method to search the old mailing list postings? If someone would be interested in digging down into this a little, please let me know. Hello, I am New to all star. My goal is to in the end build a fm dstar reapter using the allstar for fm and free star for dstar. My qustion is I have a BF888S and Want to make A simplex node with a rpi2 and a modafide sound fob. My qustion is can I do this and down the road add another node thats full duplex. and How do I redgaster my call sign. could some one send me in the right derection. Thomas VE3ETG PS. Allstar node / D-Star

Thomas, As Jon said the BF888 will not give you access to the signals you need for D-Star. For D-Star you will need discriminator receive audio and modulator transmit audio. You can add D-Star to a RPi2 running AllStar. You would have AllStar running one radio or a repeater if you wish and a second radio running D-Star at the same time. They would not talk to each other. I've done this running Debian Jessie on the Pi2. AllStar on one radio and and the G4KLX D-Star repeater software on the other. app_rpt working with Signalink
