Using a channel driver written about 5 years ago by Bogdan Diaconescu, YO3IIU, I have a pretty clean way of using the on board sound (snd_bcm2835) You can use a amplified speaker plugged into the 3.5 MM jack on the RPi2 to monitor the node. I've posted the source code at <https://github.com/N4IRS/AllStar/tree/master/chan_alsaradio> I will update the README over the next couple of days. The only thing I have used the channel driver for, is to monitor the node on a local speaker WITHOUT needing to add a second USB sound device. On the RPI, this is a one way driver. The on board sound does not have a mic input. From there let you imagination run wild. Are you getting a valid carrier signal on the PL/COX detect output? Verify in CPS and compare to URI settings. I have everything up and running on a Raspberry PI 2 with a DMK URI to the radio etc. My question is has anyone used the onboard sound card to do an aux output for monitoring purposes? This could come in handy in my situation and I was wondering if anyone has done it and if so, how did they do it? Thanks, Ryan W9UEY

MTR2000 and RTCM's

Interfacing Motorola Quantar to quadpci radio card

I don't know if anyone has done this before (I'm sure it's been done), but I've not seen a document on it. I use the quad port radio cards with app_rpt/asterisk as allstar nodes and needed to interface a quantar station with them. I've built the following up to allow some one to build it directly into a box with a RJ-45 jack, so you only need a patch cable to connect to the quad port card. Additionally I've setup the wildcard tables on the quantar to have a seperate COS and PL decode output to the quad port card. There is a final input for alarm status on the station, but Ive not figured out how to do anything useful with it in app_rpt just yet. This is my system.conf for dahdi in this configuration: e&m=1 # This needs to match the number of channels used in rpt.conf loadzone = us defaultzone=us exttone=y invertcor=n channels=1 #apply it to port 1 I bought a 10' male to male rj-21 cable off ebay, and cut it in half. It works perfect on the back of quantar. My document shows the standard color codes used by these cables and how the pairs are laid out, much more logically than the service manual. IO line manipulation in app_rpt?

I've been working with a Quantar and the "wildcard" functions (basically a programing of IO and audio lines based on station events), and have now enabled an IO line that will go high if there is a major alarm on the station. I believe I should be able to read this line and if it goes high, use the event action functions in app_rpt to change a courtesy tone/announce/email/etc. I've been able to find some examples of interfacing the pciradio card UIOA/B pins for remote bases, but not find anything for using them as general purpose IO. Does anyone have an example of setting actions off GPIO inputs they can share? Jessie and Asterisk /app_rpt

Just to let you know that yesterday after supper i decided to load Jessie (debian 8) to a small server I had here doing nothing. (proliant with a xeon 2.5ghz 4 core with 8 gig of ram and 3 tb of HD) So net install of Jessie went smooth. let it run all night. made the latest update and upgrade this morning.. Decided to test if I could install an allstar server on it.. Took the file from N4IRS github and used his script. (the linode one) And now I have my test node 29534 running on that setup. it is linked to my 2 other nodes.. 27821 and 28739.. Just wanted to thanks N4IRS Steve, for all his hard work..

Sending DTMF to remote device

I am trying to send DTMF codes to an SCOM controller via an AllStar link. I have enabled propagate_dtmf=yes on both sides, and I think the tones are reaching the remote node, but it is not been sent out on the remote end. I have seen references suggesting you this in command mode, but I want the remote node to ignore the tones, and output it to the SCOM instead, so this doesn't seem appropriate. DMK URI COS Level / Kenwood TKR-850

Is the 0-5 Volt COS swing on a Kenwood TKR-850 sufficient to switch the COS on a DMK URI? Can't seem to get my system to repeat. I'm out in the 'boondocks' with very few parts and a long way from a Radio Shack. Just hoping I don't need to buffer the COS somehow to get it to switch. John

One more thing, if I may. Can I use a USB and a Beagle Board or does I need to use a RTCM for voting? The cost comes out about the same but the Beagle has more options like the ability to stream the audio to an Icecast server. From: Chuck Henderson Sent: Saturday, May 09, 2015 8:44 AM To: R. The amount of delay is going to need to be just a little more than the path with the greatest delay. For a repeater that uses all private point to point 5 ghz links I have an almost constant 2 ms delay due to the data link, but once in a while it goes up to 30ms. But for a repeater that uses the Internet I have delays of 30 to 140ms for the network path and once in a while up to 300ms on the Internet. On the all private links repeater I can set it for about 100ms of overall delay and have no problems, but for the Internet connected system I have to set it for 400ms overall delay. The delay is sometimes noticed on unkey when a person hears the last syllable of what they said. And it makes it impossible for a person using 2 radios in their car to listen to the output of the repeater while transmitting into the repeater input, unless they have an amazing brain that can deal with hearing them self delayed and still be able to talk. I can't. So just give up listening to yourself talk and the delay is no issue. No audio is lost due to the delay. I did think about the doubling that can happen due to the delay, so I modified the main site so that as soon as it detects carrier, and even before it detects PL, it keys the transmitter through a timer for 500ms max, that lets everyone listening to the repeater know that someone may be about to talk so don't double. If PL is not detected and the AllstarLink never sends a key down signal, then the transmitter drops after the first 500 ms. It has worked great at almost completely eliminating doubling. As for the main transmit site, it will have a receiver and a transmitter connected to the same RTCM and if the RTCM looses contact with the asterisk system due to a network outage, then the repeater becomes a single site repeater with a simple CW ID'r and preset hang time. Though it's less desirable to me than an MTR2000 those just aren't in the budget. Its certainly easier to interface to than the MASTR III's that I have on the bench now. It is a mobile radio but in my installation I have 12 commercial UHF DMR MTR3000's all running nearly 100 watts at the same site as my UHF receiver and they're only separated horizontally and not vertically. My CDM receiver also has a preamp and I've had almost no trouble. I did have a mixing product but only when a 2 meter remote base transmitted on 144.890. I'll add I have a pretty crappy duplexer on this but it is BP/BR and also has a pre-selector between the preamp and the receiver.
