How do I get my computer to recognize my internet connection on Centos

Hello I an trying to build an Allstar Link Node I went to the allstar page , downloaded the Centos software, burnt it to a disk, and uploaded it to my Toshiba Laptop . Now when the program runs I get an error at the end that says the computer could not detect an internet connection, and wont let me proceed with the install. I have my computer hard-wired to the internet box , but the light on the box does not come-on and flash, and the cable company said they can't detect anything being hooked to my box on the system. I need to know how to get my now Lenox computer to detect the ether-net port or something ? Thank You Jeff Wolfe KC3ENZ

DIAL Install Hangs

First I would like to say I do like the way this installs much more quickly and was an easy boot from a UBS Flash. I have an Intel DN2800MTE motherboard. It requires me to add parms on boot: video=LVDS-1:d video=eDP-1:d This allow for my external VGA monitor to display. So far... So good... Next the basic packages get installed and the system shuts down. Upon startup, some packages are add/removed and then the system hangs. What I found was that my network router supports IP v6. I don't have it specifically configured. The end result is that the DNS name servers are not set so that the steps in rc.local can find the hosts. In order to work around the issue I added the following: video=LVDS-1:d video=eDP-1:d ipv6.disable=1 This causes IP v6 not to be started. IP v4 took over (DHCP) and obtained the correct settings and updated /etc/resolve.conf correctly. I hope this helps others and adds value for future documentation. Thanks & 73's Darren KJ6KFB

I'm happy with the Foxconn. I got it since ward Mundy recommended it and was known to work with Piaf or incredible pbx. Compatible Small(er) Profile Computer for Use with Quad PCI Card

I've been playing with the BeagleBoards and PI computers for a while but I think it's time for me to resurrect my original Quad PCI Card system with a smaller and newer computer. Obviously, the PCI card requirement is a must.... as is not breaking the bank, reasonable size footprint, and relatively low power consumption. Anyone else still running a Quad-Card system? If so, what are some recommended eBay or bargain-basement computers? John / WB5NFC

Jackson Labs GPS Device and RTCM

I am thinking of acquiring a couple of the Jackson Labs M12M replacement receivers to use with my RTCM units. It appears that they might greatly simplify the process obtaining a GPS derived 1 PPS signal, especially for temporary / portable repeaters that require voting receivers. They are currently available for under $200 per unit, shipped. http://www.jackson-labs.com/assets/uploads/main/M12M_replacement_Specsheet.… http://www.jackson-labs.com/assets/uploads/main/M12M_replacement_UserManual… These were designed as a retrofit for a specific earlier GPS receiver but they appear to be potentially useful to supply at least the 1 PPS signal required by the RTCM. They might also act as a frequency standard for simulcast, although they may not have the oscillator required to provide a stable frequency source in the event of loss of GPS signal. Does it appear that these units would work? Has anyone experimented with this or similar units with the RTCM? Thanks. KE6CD

Personally I think there should be a physical firewall appliance. It could be as simple as pfsense. The appliance should be in front of anything you want protected. You can get old watchguard hardware for like $50 and put mikrotik routeros on it for additional $45 or pfsense for free. The X700 or X1000 are easiest. The e series is doable as is the Xtm5 series. I've got a pile of X700s. They are celeron 1200 mhz with 256mb ram and six 10/100 Ethernet ports. Uses cf flash. Also has ide interface. I have two running routeros and friends have pfsense on it and on the Xtms Let asterisk do it's thing let other things Di security and other functions. DIAL sets up a node so it can be configured by most users either using Linux tools or tools on other systems (WinSCP) Before a node is deployed it should be locked down. This is a given. Right now my plate is full getting versions for other processors. So I'm going to ask the security people in the group to create a lock down or deploy script. Take the existing DIAL deployment and lock it down. I'll take your work make sure it fits with the x86 DIAL and the other processors. New Official Allstar Distribution Released

A new official Allstar Link Distribution is now available. It is called "DIAL" (Debian Install (for) Allstar Link). It is based on 'Debian Jessie', and supports a number of modern motherboards and other hardware configurations, of which the "Old Standard" (ACID) distro sadly fell short. It runs a VERY modern 3.X Linux kernel and DAHDI (as opposed to Zaptel, as was in the ACID distro). The ISO (installation) image may be downloaded at: http://dl.allstarlink.org/dial/dial-allstar-netinstall.iso Download the image, "burn" it to a CD or USB stick, install it, let it do its "installation stuff" (it reboots once or twice), and then, finally log in as 'root' with the password 'debian'. You will be taken through a script with a few questions, and then it will be ready to use. This is a result of a great deal of diligent work by Steve Zingman, N4IRS and Mike Zingman, N4IRR, without whom this would have not been possible. Mark, That's great. I'm glad the newer version of ezstream available to DIAL via ap-get work well. I have not touched Linux streaming since I stopped hosting a icecast server for a radio station on C Band subcarrier.
